Nordic Beach House

01/12/2025 by bettysbay

A warm welcome to you from Ellen, Lucille & the Be in Betty’s Bay team

Having lived here for over 10 years, we’re excited to share our beautiful village and some useful tips to help you make the most of your stay.

Betty’s Bay is part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve and home to one of the richest fynbos areas in the Western Cape. Please help protect this unique environment by being cautious with fires, reducing your footprint and respecting wildlife.

We value the peace and tranquillity of Betty’s Bay and hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Enjoy your stay!

THIS IS A HIGH FIRE RISK AREA

  • Don’t flick cigarette butts or bottle tops anywhere in the garden or over balconies or around braai areas.
  • Please don’t leave fires unattended and extinguish coals after your braai. Make 100% sure the coals are out before going to bed.
  • Be aware of strong wind – Don’t braai in very windy conditions

General notes:

  • All windows and doors must be locked and the alarm set whenever you leave the house.
  • NO day visitors allowed.
  • Baboons roam the area – ensure that windows and external doors are locked when not physically present in the room – baboons can gain access through the smallest gaps. Do not tempt baboons by leaving fresh produce, eggs, baked goods, etc, in full view.
  • NO SMOKING allowed anywhere inside the house.
  • Don’t flick cigarette butts or bottle tops anywhere in the garden or over balconies or around braai areas.
  • Nappies MUST be bagged and discarded in the garbage bin – do not flush nappies.
  • Please don’t remove internal keys and please leve them where you found them.
  • Leave furniture the way you found it.
  • Don’t leave the outside pillows out in windy conditions.
  • Rubbish MUST be bagged – The municipality will not empty wheelie bins with loose rubbish.
  • The house operates on a septic tank system and blockages can occur easily. Avoid flushing anything that wasn’t consumed.

Power outages / Load shedding:

Nordic has an inverter. During Power Outages: only ONE appliance can run at the same time (toaster, kettle, microwave, vacuum cleaner). You CANNOT use the oven, oil heater, hair dryer or tumble dryer during loadshedding.

Please manage your garbage

Please use the bags provided. Garbage MUST be bagged in order for the municipality to remove it.

When you check out, please leave your garbage in a secure wheelie bin. If a bin is not available, please leave it in the house/garage for us to dispose of, or drop it off across the road from our office at the Municipal dump on your way out.

Here for a longer stay? – Garbage collection day is on a Wednesday (Tuesday for Sunny Seas between Herold Porter and Kleinmond). You can take it out when the garbage guys come past, but please don’t leave it outside.

Notes applying to this house:

Indoor Gas Braai Instructions:

    • Please open the gas valve under the braai and close it after use.
    • Turn the first left knob to high and ignite with the red button while pushing in.
    • Once the first burner is on, do the same with the other knobs, moving from the left to the right side of the braai.

Opening and closing of the swimming pool cover

The crank needed to open the pool cover and the ropes to close it can be found on the bottom shelf next to the front door.

IMPORTANT: The Pool cover pump is plugged into the wall socket and is positioned in the middle of the cover.  Its function is to remove water from the cover when it is raining.  If you do not open the cover, please leave the pump where it is.  If you open the pool, please keep the pump plugged in but place it on the side of the pool (by the stairs).

To open:

Place the crankshaft into the hole on the side of the cover (circled in green).  Turn the crank in a clockwise direction until the cover is open.  Please store the crankshaft on the shelf next to the front door when done.

To close:

Hook the rope onto the cover on both sides (areas circled in green).  Pull the cover closed by pulling on the handle on the rope.  Please store the rope where found (bottom shelf next to the front door).
