Otters Walk
A warm welcome to you from Ellen, Lucille & the Be in Betty’s Bay team
Having lived here for over 10 years, we’re excited to share our beautiful village and some useful tips to help you make the most of your stay.
Betty’s Bay is part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve and home to one of the richest fynbos areas in the Western Cape. Please help protect this unique environment by being cautious with fires, reducing your footprint and respecting wildlife.
We value the peace and tranquillity of Betty’s Bay and hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Enjoy your stay!

THIS IS A HIGH FIRE RISK AREA
- Don’t flick cigarette butts or bottle tops anywhere in the garden or over balconies or around braai areas.
- Please don’t leave fires unattended and extinguish coals after your braai. Make 100% sure the coals are out before going to bed.
- Be aware of strong wind – Don’t braai in very windy conditions

General notes:
- All windows and doors must be locked and the alarm set whenever you leave the house.
- NO day visitors allowed.
- Baboons roam the area – ensure that windows and external doors are locked when not physically present in the room – baboons can gain access through the smallest gaps. Do not tempt baboons by leaving fresh produce, eggs, baked goods, etc, in full view.
- NO SMOKING allowed anywhere inside the house.
- Don’t flick cigarette butts or bottle tops anywhere in the garden or over balconies or around braai areas.
- Nappies MUST be bagged and discarded in the garbage bin – do not flush nappies.
- Please don’t remove internal keys and please leve them where you found them.
- Leave furniture the way you found it.
- Don’t leave the outside pillows out in windy conditions.
- Rubbish MUST be bagged – The municipality will not empty wheelie bins with loose rubbish.
- The house operates on a septic tank system and blockages can occur easily. Avoid flushing anything that wasn’t consumed.

Please manage your garbage
When you check out, please leave your garbage in a secure wheelie bin. If a bin is not available, please leave it in the house/garage for us to dispose of, or drop it off across the road from our office at the Municipal dump on your way out.
Here for a longer stay? – Garbage collection day is on a Wednesday (Tuesday for Sunny Seas between Herold Porter and Kleinmond). You can take it out when the garbage guys come past, but please don’t leave it outside.
Notes applying to this house:
- VERY IMPORTANT – Please note that if baboons enter the house due to negligence, you will be liable for any damages they may cause
- Make sure the beach loungers are stored inside during windy conditions
Hot tub instructions:
- Please store the hot tub cover in a spot sheltered from wind (under the outdoor braai or next to the gas bottles in the cage under the kitchen window)
- Make sure to close the DRAIN TAP located on the side of the tub:
- The tap and hosepipe to fill the tub are next to it. Make sure that the water level is never below the line indicated as the optimal fill level
- The chimney will be set up before your arrival. Please make sure it is secure and that the flange screws have been tightened:
- Make a sizeable fire in the FIREBOX until the water is warmed to your liking. Only make a fire if the FIREBOX is adequately surrounded by water:
- Ensure the FIREBOX LID is closing the firebox, however, leaving the AIR-VENT open to make a good flame to heat the water quicker:
Closing the AIR-VENT will throttle the fire and can be used to kill the fire.
